Movies will be judged on a point scale, with 100 possible points. This is divided into the following sections, worth 20 points each:
Plot Yes, I am a Gore Whore, but I also like a good plot. If the idea is creepy, creative, or shocking enough, full points. If it's the run of the mill teen slasher... not so much.
Big Bad The Big Bad is the reason it's a horror flick. Sometimes it's a disease, sometimes it's a monster, sometimes it's a diseased monster. Whatever the Big Bad is, the scarier, the better. If I have to sleep with the lights on, full points. If I'm dozing off during it's big scene, not so much.
Hero Every Big Bad needs someone to terrorize. For ease of description, we'll call this the Hero. From the saucy teen queen that dispatches the serial killer, to the muscle-bound scientist that comes up with the cure for the giant, mutant, zombie-lizard terrorizing the city, plausiblity, fierceness, and over-all level of awesome lead to high points.
Effects Every movie has effects. The low-budget use of shadow and light can be just as effective as the high dollar animatronics and buckets of blood. In the end, there is something to draw you in, hold you down, and make you cry. Or, at least, there tries to be. This is scored on how effective the effects are at creating that sense of terror I love so much.
Bonus This is for everything I've decided is worth a random, extra point for. Body count, horror movie cliches, etc. Purely arbitrary, just for fun, it is possible for a movie to receive zero points here and still be good overall, or for a crap movie to score full points.
Total Points: XX/100
Worth it/Run In the end, points aside, is this flick worth seeing? If it is, I'll say so. If it's not, run for the hills and don't look back.
